Dr Akinyemi Akinyugha is the Technical Adviser to the Governor of Ekiti State, Nigeria on Green Economy and Ecological Matters, advising on circular economy, waste management, carbon projects development, climate change etc. He superintends over mainstreaming ESG and climate considerations into all sectors of the state economy.
Akinyemi currently leads the UN-Habitat sponsored African Clean Cities Program in Ado Ekiti, where he is responsible for the execution of Waste Wise Cities Survey as well as developing a circular economy strategy for the city.
He concurrently serves as Project Coordinator of the World Bank-funded Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) where he successfully executed over $22 million project comprising flood/erosion control, forest regeneration and social livelihoods intervention in Ekiti state. The project won a national award from the World Bank for being the Overall Best State Project (Tier IV category).
Prior to this position, Akinyemi served as Technical Special Assistant to the Lagos State Government, where he was responsible for providing advice on policies, programs and projects for improving environmental protection in Lagos. He served as one of the Technical Expert representing Lagos State in designing and executing the World Bank-funded Air Quality Management Plan for Lagos State – first of its kind in West Africa.
Dr Akinyemi Akinyugha holds a BSc in Industrial Chemistry (First Class) from University of Ibadan, Nigeria, MSc in Environmental Technology (with Distinction) from Imperial College, London and a PhD in Engineering from the University of Cambridge, UK.
