
Professor Philip O. Alege is a distinguished economist, educator, and macroeconomic modeller with over three decades of experience spanning academia, policy, and consultancy. He is a Professor of Economics at Covenant University, Ota, Nigeria, and currently serves as President of the Nigerian Association of Macroeconomic Modellers (NAMM).
Professor Alege’s academic and research expertise lies in international trade (RTA), econometrics, economic growth and macroeconomic (DSGE) modelling. A trilingual scholar with academic roots in Belgium, he holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Covenant University, an M.Sc. in Econometrics from Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), and a second Master’s degree in Industrial Location and Development from Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB).
With over 90 scholarly publications in Scopus-indexed and peer-reviewed international journals, Professor Alege is widely recognized for advancing macroeconomic modelling in Africa. He has received specialised training in computable general equilibrium (CGE) and DSGE modelling through programs supported by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the African Development Bank (AfDB), and has facilitated advanced workshops across the continent.
His public service and policy consulting experience include roles with the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), MEDAL consultancy, and as a former Special Adviser to a Nigerian Senator. He is the Lead Consultant at Macroeconomic Analytics Resources (MARes), a visiting professor at the Centre for Petroleum, Energy Economics and Law (CPEEL), University of Ibadan, and a frequent assessor and reviewer for academic institutions and journals including the Central Bank of Nigeria, SAGE Open, Economic Modelling, and Research in Globalisation.
Professor Alege has served in several academic leadership roles, including as Head of Department and Dean of the College of Management and Social Sciences at Covenant University. He has supervised over 22 Ph.D. theses, including several in DSGE modelling, and chairs the Ph.D. Thesis Award Committee of the Nigerian Economic Society (NES). He is also a nominator for the prestigious VinFuture Foundation Prize, Vietnam.
